Let’s get real: “What do you want out of life?

It’s wild how rarely we’re asked this question—at least, not in a way that invites us to answer honestly. For years, I didn’t even know how to begin answering it. Like so many, I found myself lost on a path I never consciously chose—just following the map handed to me by culture, family, and the well-meaning voices around me.

Growing up in America, it’s easy to conflate identity, happiness, and “a good life” with career achievement. We’re conditioned for survival and belonging, so it’s natural to chase what’s comfortable for our community—even if it means shelving our truest interests. For me, that looked like trading my love of art for “art-adjacent” jobs that felt safer and more acceptable.

Here’s the thing: I know I’m not alone. Most people never get the chance—or the support—to even define what their Option A could look like, let alone pursue it.

What is Option A, really?

It’s not just a job or a title. It’s the intersection of three things:

  • What truly sparks your curiosity and lights you up

  • What you’re innately great at—your strengths

  • What you value at your core, the principles you want to embody

At Slow Living Solutions, this is where our work begins. We help you name and claim these elements, so you can finally articulate your Option A—and iterate on it as you grow.

I was lucky to have a family that encouraged exploration, but even then, my strengths (art, English, psychology, dance, theatre) didn’t translate into “conventional” or “stable” careers. Sound familiar?

Here’s the rub:

As a society, we don’t do a great job teaching kids—or adults—how to identify their strengths or explore their interests without fear of failure. We’re so focused on avoiding disappointment that we forget the reward of discovering what we’re truly capable of.

Why does this matter?

Peter Senge, author of The Fifth Discipline, nails it:

People who achieve what they truly seek have high levels of personal mastery. Personal mastery means approaching life as a creative act, not just reacting to what’s handed to us.

But to get there, you have to ask yourself:

  • What are my core values?

  • What are my strengths?

  • What are my real interests?

Naming these opens up a whole new conversation about the overlap—the sweet spot where your vision for yourself begins to take shape.

That’s the beginning of personal mastery, and it’s exactly what we help you uncover at Slow Living Solutions.

Our Envisioning Model

Through our foundational sessions, you’ll work through exercises to:

  • Identify your core values

  • Map how your time and behaviors align (or don’t) with those values

  • Clarify how your strengths and interests can be put to work in service of your vision

Misalignment between your values and your actual life? That’s often where the stress, dissatisfaction, and burnout creep in. By analyzing your time and priorities through the lens of your values, you can finally make intentional, empowered choices about what you want to nurture—and what you’re ready to let go.

Life Crafting: Your Act of Resilience

Life crafting isn’t just a nice idea—it’s an act of rebellion and resilience.

It’s the highly intentional process of closing the gap between where you are and who you want to become. As Schippers & Ziegler put it, life crafting is “a process in which people actively reflect on their present and future life, set goals for important areas—social, career, leisure—and, if needed, make concrete plans to change these areas in ways that align with their values and wishes.”

Personal mastery is the discipline you bring to these actions. At Slow Living Solutions, we don’t just talk about this—we teach you how to do it, step by step, with proven frameworks and real support.

Here’s the truth:

It takes courage to want more from your life—and even more to go after it. Our mission at Slow Living Solutions is to equip you with the tools, strategies, and community to make your vision real.

You don’t have to settle for Option B. Your Option A is waiting for you to claim it.
